Sony has announced the VPL-PHZ61 and VPL-PHZ51 projectors. It claims that the gadgets are the world’s smallest 3LCD laser projectors, measuring around 422 x 129 x 338 mm (~16.6 x 5.1 x 13.3-in). Sony describes the devices as multi-functional, suitable for the home, workplace, classroom or museum. Each model supports a 4K60P input and has a fixed lens with a vertical shift of +55%, which the company suggests is the widest of its comparable products.

Both projectors have high brightness levels, projecting clear images even in well-lit rooms. The VPL-PHZ61 has up to 6,400 lumens (7,000 lumen center), while the VPL-PHZ51 has up to 5,200 lumens (5,800 lumen center). The devices use Reality Creation and Reality Text technology to improve image clarity for crisp pictures and text. Intelligent Settings automatically adapts the projector based on the room; for example, an Ambiance tool uses an ambient light sensor to detect and optimize the picture, and the Bright View feature ensures you see accurate colors in brighter environments. Plus, a new dust filtration system reduces the need for cleaning.

Other tools included on the projectors are Auto Power On and Auto Input Select, detecting a signal and switching accordingly. Auto Light Output lowers the brightness to reduce power consumption, and a data cloning function enables you to copy the projector's settings to another product via USB. The Sony VPL-PHZ61 and VPL-PHZ51 projectors will launch in North America this November for US$5,500 and US$4,500, respectively.
